Auditions


How to Audition for Gold Company

  • Participation in Gold Company and GC II is open to any WMU student regardless of major.
  • Auditions for Gold Company and GC II (Singers, Instrumentalists and Audio Technicians) are held at the beginning of the academic year in Room 1203 of the Dalton Center.

Vocal Audition

  • If possible,singing two (2) prepared contrasting vocal selections of your choice (preferably in the jazz or pop style, but not necessarily). Select songs that best and most comfortably represent your voice.
  • Sight reading a single vocal line.
  • Learning a short piece of music that you pick up 24 hours before your audition, practice on your own, and then sing at your audition.
  • Vocal improvisation or scat singing (no prior experience necessary) on a song of your choice, or a standard form like 12 bar blues.
  • Students may sing a cappella, or provide their own piano accompaniment, or tapes or CD’s. Students do only one audition and then are placed in either Gold Company or GC II. Participation is for the entire academic year (fall and spring semesters). Sign up for an audition time in advance of your audition in Room 1203 of the Dalton Center.

Audio Engineer

This audition will consist of an interview. Sign up at 1203 Dalton Center at the start of the Fall semester. No prior experience is required, but a good attitude is!

Rhythm Section and GC Horns

Rhythm section (piano, bass, drums, guitar) and GC horns (2 trumpets, tenor sax, trombone) auditions will consist of a short playing audition plus interview. Sign up in advance of your audition at 1203 Dalton Center at the start of the Fall Semester.
